A Lone Flower, by Gino Franco Velasco

This photo was taken last September 13, 2012 when the company was having a recreation day at Pajulahti. While most of my colleagues were still in the sauna, I went for a walk outside and explored the sports center. While walking in the grass, I saw this small flower alone and quite lonely.

Pink Sisters, by Gino Franco Velasco

We went to the summer cottage of my girlfriend’s relative to do strawberry picking in the summer afternoon of July 9, 2011. After we were done picking strawberries, I searched for some flowers nearby. Upon seeing these pink flowers, I was astonished by the beauty that it showed while the sunlight were shining upon them.

Let’s Color your World, by Nazmul Shanji

In 2012 I went to Southampton and visit Tudor’s house. It was a nice place to see. There I found lots of interesting things to photograph. In an office room I found these color pencils with some white papers and suddenly it strike in my mind that without these pencils white papers are meaningless. If I draw some lines/shapes/words then this paper will get a life. In a sense, without proper education we are like a white paper. That is the story behind this photo.

Nazmul Shanji was born in January 1986 and from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is an Electrical Power Engineer and completed his BSc in EEE from Bangladesh and MSc from London. He was in band music from his early days until 2008 then suddenly left professional music for his better study life. From his childhood he loves to take pictures of nature and people around him, but honestly it was not his infatuation. Photography becomes his passion when he inspired a lot by his wife around a year ago. He believes self-learning is the best learning so that he started learning photography by the help of e-books, online articles, video tutorials and observing seniors’ works. His friends and cousins helped him a lot for a quick start with his 1st DSLR camera. After 5 months he completed his 1st photographic course in Photojournalism. Recently he has done an advance course in basic photography and now started a one diploma course in professional photography. He feels affection for taking photos of different aspects of human life and nature. Nature, wild life, architectural, street photography and candid portraiture are his specialty. Shanji also loves to do wedding photography barely from an artistic vision just not only for earning money. Creating own signature in photos is Nazmul Shanji’s main awareness where he always try to put his own styles, knowledge and views. “I love to travel a lot and try to capture the moments of life. My dream is to be a photo creator by which I can show my observation to others, the scrutiny of an unseen diary” said by him.

Journey through the Martial Arts, by Ronnie Glover

The colored belts of Karate represent my journey through the martial arts. I began Karate not knowing really what to expect but wanting to challenge myself to see how far I could advance. I soon discovered it was less about reaching a particular level and more about self improvement. For me, it is a journey of seeking perfection in all areas of life while understanding this perfection can never be reached. Although I was already physically active, my journey has improved my physical and mental strength. It has taught me to be more humble, more open minded, more patient, and to have a greater respect for others. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to begin this journey.

Photography took a backseat while Ronnie obtained his college degree. After graduation, he purchased his first camera but was unable to produce the images that he saw in his mind. He then took a few continuing education classes to learn the technical aspects of the camera and realized there was so much more to learn about photography. So Ronnie enrolled in the professional program at Southeastern Center for the Arts in Atlanta. The school was operated by Jeanne & Neil Chaput de Saintonge, who currently operate Rocky Mountain School of Photography. He spent 14 years living in Alaska and this gave him unbelievable opportunities to experience nature and capture many images. Ronnie also enjoys sports and travel photography and the experience of different cultures. It is his wish that his images will expose others to the beauty of nature, the inspiration of physical pursuits, and other cultures and promote a greater understanding of each. Most recently, he has ventured into the exploding mobile photography realm using his iPhone to document running and sporting events. Uncommon Way, by Nirupam Roy

The picture was taken on the way of my school with my new Nikon D7000. Every day on my way these beautiful yellow mustard flowers beckon me to take a snap of them. One day I saw the field is ventured by the herons which was unusual because there was no water ways beside the field. Next day I carry the cam and took so many shots on them.

Blue Hour, by Jens Hieke

The usually well-attended Wörlitzer Park near Dessau, Germany, now is deserted and quiet. Neither swan nor boat destroys the reflection of the trees on the water. Created by Leopold III, Duke of Anhalt-Dessau, in the 18th century, the park remains a vital and popular manifestation of the Enlightenment.

While walking and wandering, I accidentally discovered the garden of the Hotel de Sens in Paris. Feeling exhausted, I sat in the garden to admire the beauty of the exquisitely maintained grounds. This group of yellow daisies was being devoured by bees and lady bugs.

Henri Coleman is a native Texan who grew up in the Fort Worth/Dallas area, attended Texas State University and graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics. Upon graduation, Henri moved to Austin, married and started a family. After raising three children and helping to build a family-owned business, she retired and started traveling. The first major trip abroad was a cruise that started in Monaco and ended in Barcelona. On the first day of touring, her Nikon camera was stolen and she had to rely on throw-away cameras for the remainder of the trip. Once Henri returned home and developed all the film, she fell in love with the story that the photos captured. Henri was hooked…an amateur photographer was born.

Using the photos that she had taken on her recent European trip, she created a blog “Henri Loves…,” started sharing photos on the blog and on Twitter. The following year Henri had the opportunity to go to Paris and fell hard for the city. She was able to return to Paris again that same year and Paris became “her special place.” The blog has been a work-in-progress with a tweak to the name, “Henri Loves Paris…” Additionally, she started a successful Facebook page, “Henri Loves Paris.” Henri has a faithful group of people who follow her page and she finds the interaction rewarding and fun.
After three years of travel in France and shooting photos with a point-and-shoot and iPhone, Henri finally graduated to a Nikon D5100. She is still in learning mode with the new camera, but that hasn’t stopped her from doing what she loves to do most…finding something of beauty or interest, pointing and shooting!

This is one of my earliest photographs. I was attending a fun fair in a park when I spotted this little girl sitting by herself and looking so lonely. Even from the back, she cut a cute figure against the green backdrop of the lake.

To her, the expressions people wear are so beautiful, so telling, so uncovered in their sincerity. With her photo-taking, she tries and does justice to capture humanity in its many forms. Shirren’s work has been described as intense and earthy with her simple composition cutting to the heart of the subject matter. As a child, she had flipped through many of her father’s National Geographic magazines, but it was Steve McCurry’s 1984 “Afghan Girl” that she recall two decades later. That is what she wants to do with her life. She believes, someday, she can able to capture that one moment that could change the world. Her work has appeared in several web and printed magazines.

Rob van der Waal was born in 1957 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His father was a passionate photographer who taught him the basics of photography. When he was 7 years old, his family already had a darkroom on the top floor of their family house. His dad was on the edge of what was possible those days, using 2 Leica M3 bodies, and was developing black/white and color films by himself and with some modifications to his equipment, created images of 40x60cm. Apart from his father’s touch and some workshops, Rob van der Waal is an autodidact. With reading, listening and most of all just doing, he developed his creative and photography skills. To briefly summarize his style in photography; pure and honest are the key words that come close. He loves to be out in nature and enjoys the space, light and birds, and on those frequent trips his camera is his companion. He believes, some interest build into his DNA is “maritime”. It’s his preference to be at the waterfront, the sea, and close to ships and its related activity. He feels fortunate to live close to Rotterdam, a harbor area in the Netherlands. He will always respect nature and animals. He hopes more people will support this principle. What triggers him in photography is that, it is never done, complete or finish, as there is always a way to playing with the light and the moment, which gives the opportunity in another way to tell the story!

Ducks in Red River, by Hugo Baptista

On my way to Lourinhã from Lisbon I noticed from several miles away that the Atlantic was coloring red. As I approached I noticed it was pouring from a river. The cause for this coloration is torrential rains the night before. Normally this water is clear.

In a professional world dominated by specialisms he considers himself a jack of all trades, and a master of all.
