It seems easy to make an `interesting’ macro photograph as the subject is usually something hardly observed by our naked eyes. However, creating a macro shot that keeps viewer’s eyes on it for some moments is rather difficult. In a close-up shot, I often look for a good subject to be in focus, and equally important, search for an interesting background to complete the frame. I guess this shot is one good example of those.

I love Monarch butterflies since my childhood, they are so delicate and at the same time have a great strength to achieve one of the most impressive migrations. It’s fantastic to seem them here in Monterrey during its migration and I found this little one in the natural Park “La Estanzuela”. My intention in this photo is reflect the space, the green space, that surrounds the butterfly.

Sunday morning I drove a few hours from home to visit the Magic Wings Butterfly Garden. While trying to capture a photo a transparent butterfly I came upon this delicate flower a little larger than my thumbnail resting in the shade and on a leaf of one of the bigger trees in the green house. Fortunately I had the time to wait for touch of the sun to come around and awaking its internal soul like it does most of us daily.

Photographer: Thaddeus Miles ( Lowell, Massachusetts USA )
Thaddeus Miles envisions sustainable cities. As Director of Public Safety at MassHousing he works with law enforcement and diverse communities throughout Massachusetts confronting the complexities of crime and trauma. He has a long track record, a strong commitment to empowering people and strengthening youth voice, and vision.

Thaddeus garnered insights and strategies from his international work at Harvard Law School and Community/Urban planning programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have reinforced his steadfast commitment to ensuring that the most underserved members of our community have genuine opportunities for success and achievement.

He founded the MassIMPACT technology consortium, and co-founded the Neighborhood Network National Consortium. He serves on many nonprofit boards throughout the Commonwealth. His newest partnership “Think Big Dream Big” is a youth driven initiative to jumpstart young people on the journey to a positive future, the fulfillment of their goals, and dreams.

Thaddeus Miles is also an animator and photographer. This led him to become the Board President of Peace* in Focus*: a global non-profit organization that trains youth from underserved and post-conflict communities to be creative peace builders and leaders using photography and grassroots media tools. His immersion in his latest photography projects: “365 a photo a Day in 2012,” and “The African American Church” has strengthened his artistic vision, and illuminated the four pillars of his identity that provide the frame and structure for his photographic journey (Faith/Spirit, Family/Ancestry, Nature/Landscape and People/Community).

Captured this shot on a frosty morning in Edinburgh. Going out to photograph on a frosty morn is an amazing experience and what I have noticed is that the beauty of frost is in the detail. Getting up close to your subject brings out the real beauty. At first glance, one just sees a white layer of sparkly dust over everything but get up close and one begins to see the hidden beauty…

Photographer: Kurien Koshy Yohannan (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Photography started off as a hobby for Kurien Koshy Yohannan but now it plays a major role in his life – so much so that he plans to slowly start making a living from it. Koshy believes there is so much beauty around us that can be captured; nature is full of beauty waiting for us to capture it, if we have the eye and receptiveness for it. Koshy intends to capture this beauty through his camera lens for all to enjoy and behold. Through his photography he would like people to appreciate the world we live in – the animal and plant life that coexist with us as well as the people and cultures that surround us – and hopes that it may provide a renewed enthusiasm for people to safeguard the beautiful planet that we call Home.
Photographer: Ahmad Jaa (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
Ahmad Jaa, is an ordinary person who enjoys photography. He is not a pro and his works never been published or exhibited anywhere before. He shoots what he likes and what interest him. He loves chocolates. Just that only recently, sometime early this year he started to enjoy more and thus shooting more and more. The joy and fun in photography to his is the most important thing. Without the fun factor, photography will not be a fun thing and a happy hobby. With fun, one will be happy and enjoying them and this will keep them moving forward. He will keep on improving, experimenting and shooting and hopefully will be a better photographer.

Macro photography opens up a whole new perspective, this yellow flower was so tempting and inviting with the pollen sticking out of it. Such opportunities sometimes disappear as the day ends, since some flowers tend to shut down at the end of the day so I had to make it quick, If I can see this then so can the bee.
